HARDWARE · DESIGN · EXPERIMENTS
A portfolio for circuit boards, embedded systems, radio experiments and the process behind each build.
01 / PCB DESIGN
First-stage experiments with modules, wiring and connections before designing a custom PCB.
A purpose-designed two-layer KiCad board replacing the breadboard setup with modular ESP32-S3 hardware and JST-connected peripherals.
Moving from a breadboard prototype to a purpose-designed, modular two-layer board.
A custom two-layer PCB designed in KiCad to replace the original breadboard-and-jumper-wire setup with a cleaner, modular layout for a Bruce-based ESP32-S3 device.
Routed the board around the ESP32-S3 module, peripheral connectors, passive components and power connections. The board carries its project label and version on the silkscreen.
The green two-layer board arrived with component outlines, labels and through-hole pads ready for assembly.
Soldered the resistors, capacitors, headers and JST connectors onto the board, leaving the main ESP32-S3 module position ready to accept the development board.
The ESP32-S3 and peripheral modules have been connected to the assembled PCB for initial testing. Physical buttons and the remaining integration work are still pending.
The supplied schematic is the wiring reference for the intended hardware. The current test photo shows the modules connected; the build is still in progress, so this is not presented as a finished device.

02 / EMBEDDED SYSTEMS
ESP32, Arduino and other hardware experiments, including firmware, peripherals and interfaces.
Experiments with microcontroller platforms, firmware behaviour and hardware interfaces. More build notes and individual experiments will be added as they develop.
03 / RADIO FREQUENCY
Radio modules, antennas, telemetry and low-power communications projects.
Exploring radio modules, antenna choices and low-power communications, with an emphasis on understanding the hardware and testing responsibly.
Each build brings together design, assembly and testing, with an emphasis on reliable hardware and thoughtful documentation.
WORK IN PROGRESS
A changing collection of things I'm building, learning and experimenting with.
A purpose-built two-layer PCB for a Bruce-based ESP32-S3 device, designed in KiCad to replace a breadboard-and-jumper-wire prototype with a cleaner, modular layout. The board brings together JST-connected peripherals and modules including CC1101, nRF24L01 PA/LNA, PN532 NFC, microSD, GPS, display and IR hardware.
The build has progressed through schematic and board layout, PCB manufacture, through-hole assembly and initial electrical checks. Modules are now connected for testing; physical buttons and final integration are still to come. The project is being documented as it moves from prototype to custom hardware.
Running multiplayer services on a Linux VPS, including Stormworks and the KSP Luna Multiplayer server, alongside this self-maintained Sky_Hex website.
This project covers more than keeping a server online: it involves Linux administration, service startup and recovery, networking and firewall configuration, web hosting with Apache, and a monitoring dashboard that reports public service availability. The aim is to make the services dependable while keeping the status page clear and useful.
A new aerospace engineering challenge: a vertical-take-off-and-landing unmanned aerial vehicle designed around autonomous flight. The ambition is to bring airframe design, embedded electronics, sensing, flight-control logic and systems integration into one coherent build.
This is an early teaser, not a claim that the aircraft is already built or flight-tested. More details on the concept, design choices and development milestones will follow as the competition project takes shape.
Recording design decisions, test results and lessons learned across technical projects, from early prototypes through to assembly and validation.
THE PERSON BEHIND THE PROJECTS
A personal space for hands-on engineering, self-hosting and learning by building.
INDEPENDENT · SELF-MANAGED
Sky_Hex is a personal project hub for hosting game servers and documenting technical builds. The goal is to learn by doing: design something, test it, improve it, and share what can be useful to others.
Interests include electronics, aviation, computing, networking and engineering projects.
